Minneapolis, MINN–August 27, 2009–Joseph Bourgeault, the director of quality for Diversified Plastics, Inc., has been certified by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Six Sigma Black Belt. This certification represents a formal recognition of Bourgeaultʼs expertise in demonstrating a high level of understanding and commitment to quality techniques and practices.

Individuals awarded with the Six Sigma Black Belt are professionals who apply Six Sigma business philosophies and principles. A black belt demonstrates team leadership and manages team dynamics in all aspects of the DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, control) model. They understand lean enterprise concepts, and use support systems and tools to identify non-value-added activities when looking at a variety of business situations. Black belt certification is a rigorous process that requires detailed project work and a minimum of three years work experience in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Black Belt methodology, all leading up to a comprehensive exam.

“This certification is the result of accumulated experience and training over my entire career,” said Bourgeault. “The Six Sigma program has given me the necessary tools to effectively analyze and solve quality problems and lead teams in quality improvement projects at Diversified Plastics.” Before applying for ASQ certification, Bourgeault completed Six Sigma coursework, including special project work, at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.
